Sheffield City Council says plans to redevelop the former Sheffield Ski Village at Parkwood Springs are advancing, with a new access road forming a key part of the project. The scheme matters because it could bring major leisure facilities and wider regeneration to a prominent site that has been unused since the ski village closed.

The council has awarded Breheny Civil Engineering a contract to develop the road design, potentially linking Oakham Drive and Vale Road and improving the Rutland Road junction. It is also in discussions with New Zealand leisure operator Skyline Enterprises about a masterplan for the 51-acre site; specific facilities, including any return of skiing, have not yet been confirmed.
