Sheffield United Finances 2024/25 – The Swiss Ramble
Sheffield United’s 2024/25 accounts show the financial impact of relegation from the Premier League, with revenue falling sharply as broadcasting income almost halved. Despite an underlying operating loss, the club reported a small pre-tax profit, largely because of player sales, highlighting the importance of transfer income in managing the financial consequences of dropping into the Championship.
Revenue fell from £137.6m to £79.3m, while the club recorded an operating loss of about £16m. Player sales generated approximately £25.4m, turning that deficit into a £2.6m pre-tax profit; the accounts also included an £11m interest-free, repayable-on-demand loan from COH Sports and a £24m bank loan secured against future Premier League income.
- Relegation cut Sheffield United’s revenue by almost £60m.
- Player sales converted an operating loss into a small profit.
- New financing provided support but increased financial obligations.
