Sheffield Wednesday are reported to have decided to pursue a move for defender Reece Welch after Everton released him. The move would support the club’s rebuild following relegation to League One, although competition and the player’s preferred destination could affect any deal.

Welch, 22, is a centre-back who came through Everton’s academy and made his senior debut in the FA Cup in 2022. He made 24 appearances for Forest Green Rovers on loan in 2023–24, while Bundesliga club SC Freiburg and several League One sides are also said to be interested.
