Sheffield’s Graves Gallery will close on 31 October ahead of major refurbishment plans for the Central Library and gallery building. The closure follows a failure in the gallery’s heating system and is intended to support investigative work and preparations for a wider redevelopment, with the city’s art collection expected eventually to return.

The Grade II listed building opened in 1934 and has housed the gallery above the Central Library for decades. The collection is due to move to an interim venue in Sheffield’s Heart of the City in 2027, while library services will largely remain in the building as long-term plans are finalised.
