Sheffield’s Graves Gallery will close on 31 October after investigations found its failed heating system cannot be repaired. The collection will move to an interim city-centre venue in 2027, allowing the public continued access while the gallery’s current building undergoes long-term redevelopment planning.

Most display spaces were already closed in spring, although the artworks were not damaged; some were removed as a precaution. The gallery, which opened in 1934 above the Central Library, is expected to remain in its temporary home until redevelopment is complete and the collection can return to Surrey Street, while the Central Library and Library Theatre remain open.
