A 33-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a cyclist in his 50s was struck by a car in east London and left with life-threatening injuries. The case is significant because police are treating the incident as an alleged deliberate hit-and-run, rather than solely a road-traffic collision.

CCTV footage reportedly shows a car hitting the cyclist at speed on Aylward Street in Stepney Green at about 11.15pm on Thursday, before driving away. Parvez Ahmed Rahman was also charged with failing to stop, while the cyclist was taken as a priority to a major trauma centre after treatment by paramedics.
