The Sports Bra, a Northeast Portland venue dedicated to women's sports, served the group before a waitress approached them after noticing the shirts, some from the brand XX-XY Athletics, which campaigns for sex-based categories in sport. The bar later said on Instagram that it supports "ALL girls and women," including trans women, and that it does not tolerate messaging it views as excluding trans people, though it disputed the group's account, saying it had given them the option to cover the slogans rather than leave outright. The same group said they were separately ejected from a Portland Thorns football match at Providence Park that day for similar reasons, with a security guard citing complaints about "transphobic" clothing.
