It followed an earlier hiccup that day when an emergency inflatable slide accidentally deployed from President Donald Trump's Air Force One, delaying his departure by roughly 20 minutes while crews inspected and removed it; Trump insisted the aircraft was safe to fly. Trump was due to headline both nights of the convention, with early speakers including Congressman Tom Emmer and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, the Republican Senate nominee, who used his address to appeal for campaign support against Democratic opponent James Talarico.
