Screen Burn Interactive’s Silent Hill Townfall shows early horror promise
Developed over time first seen 10 hours ago
Polygon's hands-on preview of Silent Hill: Townfall, developed by Glasgow-based Screen Burn Interactive and published by Konami, suggests the standalone spinoff continues the franchise's strong revival following the acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake and Silent Hill f. During a three-hour Los Angeles preview session, the outlet played through the opening hours as protagonist Simon Ordell, an amnesiac washed up in the fictional Scottish coastal town of St Amelia, before jumping ahead to a more combat-intensive mid-game section.
The preview traces Simon's disorientating journey from the harbour into St Amelia's town square, through a nightmarish underground bunker sequence involving pursuit by a monstrous enemy, and into a hotel used as a makeshift hospital. There, he acquires a portable CRT television that functions like the radio in earlier Silent Hill games, revealing memory clues, puzzle hints and the movements of nearby enemies. The preview also highlights the game's unsettling tone through small details, such as a prompt asking players to confirm before Simon opens a door, and notes Townfall is due for release this autumn.
