Guitarist Simon O’Connor has been removed from Modest Mouse’s forthcoming tour dates after apologising publicly for sending inappropriate Instagram messages to an underage fan. The band said he will be replaced by Seth Jabour of Les Savy Fav, while Pitchfork reported it had sought further comment from Modest Mouse’s representatives.

The issue arose after a 17-year-old fan shared screenshots on the r/ModestMouse subreddit of messages they said O’Connor sent when they were 16. The messages reportedly included a sexually explicit meme, despite the fan’s date of birth being displayed on their Instagram profile; O’Connor said he had believed the account belonged to a frequent troll and apologised for putting the recipient in that position.
