Singapore trials dating app to match single civil servants

The Register ·

Singapore’s government digital agency GovTech is piloting FirstDate, a dating app developed at an internal hackathon to help civil servants meet potential partners. It uses questionnaires and algorithmic matching, offering one suggested match at a time; the trial reflects official interest in supporting relationships and family formation.

The app is for single Singapore civil servants aged 21 to 35 and runs on a 72-hour cycle. It uses the Gale-Shapley stable matching algorithm to assess users’ interests, habits, values and preferences, but GovTech says it cannot guarantee chemistry or a relationship. Contact details are shared if both people agree, and the app also suggests first-date activities; any wider release is undecided.
