Michael Palin is a British writer, television presenter and former member of the comedy group Monty Python. He has also made travel documentaries and written books about his journeys.

The Philippines is an archipelago, a country made up of many islands in south-east Asia. Palin’s book draws on a trip there for a Channel 5 documentary, and the planned events were to introduce readers to that work.

Book tours let authors meet readers and discuss their books at scheduled events. When an author cannot attend, organisers may rearrange the dates, and ticket holders are usually told what will happen to their bookings.
