Skeeter Davis achieved her greatest success with “The End Of The World”, released in 1962 on her fourth studio album. Written by Arthur Kent and Sylvia Dee, the emotionally bleak song became a landmark crossover hit, reflecting both Davis’s personal connection to loss and her ability to reach audiences beyond country music.

The song made Davis the only female artist at the time to reach the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100, Adult Contemporary, R&B, Easy Listening and Country charts. Although she later had several moderate hits, including “What Does It Take (To Keep a Man Like You Satisfied)” in 1967, none matched the success of “The End Of The World”; her final solo Top 20 single came in 1973.
