Skyrim Game Director Has a Very Specific Wishlist For The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel
Former Skyrim design director Bruce Nesmith says he would like The Elder Scrolls VI to improve on two features: mounts and ladders. His suggestions highlight how small-seeming mechanics can shape combat and level design in a major role-playing game, though he no longer works at Bethesda and has no role in the new game.
Nesmith said Skyrim lets players ride horses but offers little else, and he would like options such as mounted combat or a horse that can fight alongside the player. He also explained that Skyrim’s ladders simply move characters to the top or bottom, after the team struggled with programming and enemy AI questions involved in making them climbable. The game, referred to in the article as Sentinel, is still likely years away, and Bethesda has not shared many details.
In short
- Bruce Nesmith wants better mounts and usable ladders in The Elder Scrolls VI.
- He says Skyrim’s ladder system constrained level design.
- Nesmith no longer works on the game.
