Slipknot confirms departure of longtime DJ Sid Wilson

Slipknot has officially confirmed that it has parted ways with longtime DJ and keyboardist Sid Wilson, ending his nearly 28-year association with the band. The band’s brief social-media statement, posted on 14 August and later deleted, said the separation took effect immediately and wished Wilson well, but did not explain the decision. The confirmation matters because it formally ends the tenure of a prominent early member who helped shape Slipknot’s distinctive sound.
Reports first emerged on 31 July that Wilson, 49, had been removed from the group, with TMZ later alleging that longstanding tensions over his treatment of bandmates led to the split; Slipknot has not addressed those claims. Wilson joined the Iowa metal band in 1998 before its self-titled debut album, performed under the numerical name #0, and provided sound effects and background noises. He also occasionally toured as DJ Starscream.

Slipknot is an American heavy metal band formed in Iowa in the mid-1990s. It became known for its aggressive music, large line-up, numbered stage identities and masked performances, and is one of the best-known bands in its genre.
Sid Wilson joined in 1998, before the group released its first album, and performed as member number 0. As the band’s DJ and keyboardist, he added turntable work, samples and other sounds to its music, while also pursuing work under the name DJ Starscream.
Changes in Slipknot’s line-up have drawn attention because several members have been closely associated with its sound and public image for many years. The group has continued to record and tour through previous personnel changes, while remaining an active major act in heavy music.
