‘SNL’ Salutes Milwaukee Brewers’ World Series Win as Bobby Moynihan Revives Drunk Uncle Character for ‘Weekend Update’
“Saturday Night Live” celebrated the Milwaukee Brewers’ first World Series win in the team’s nearly 60-year history with a “Weekend Update” appearance by Bobby Moynihan’s Drunk Uncle character. The sketch used the victory to revisit the character’s blunt, often rambling commentary on sport and popular culture.
Moynihan, who appeared on “SNL” from 2009 to 2017, last played Drunk Uncle at the programme’s 50th anniversary special. In the sketch, he joked that baseball games now end too quickly after rule changes, then riffed on Elizabeth Holmes and historical casting debates. Brewers slugger Christian Yelich, second baseman Brice Turang and manager Pat Murphy appeared; Yelich reassured him the win was real, and Moynihan mistook him for Pete Davidson.
