Soaring heat, falling crowds – The Hundred’s peculiar summer
The Hundred’s 2026 attendance has fallen despite major investment and team rebrands, prompting renewed debate about the tournament’s long-term appeal. The ECB says the decline was anticipated during a season of substantial change, but lower crowds underline the challenge of sustaining interest once the competition is no longer new.
Ticket sales fell by just over 5%, from 580,000 in 2025 to 550,000 this year, after private investors bought stakes in all eight teams for £975m. Rebranded sides at Headingley and Old Trafford saw reduced attendances, while Cardiff recorded crowds for both Welsh Fire teams and the London derby attracted a record group-stage audience of 27,721; timings, school holidays and the absence of Ashes or India tour interest were also factors.
- Hundred ticket sales fell 5% to 550,000.
- Rebrands produced mixed attendance results across venues.
- Family and female audience proportions remained stable.
