Connecticut driver receives suspended sentence over fatal motorbike collision

Daily Mail ·

Anngelina Morton, who was 18 when her Mercedes crossed the centre line and struck motorcyclist Justin Gittings, was given a 10-year suspended prison sentence after admitting second-degree manslaughter. The decision means she will not serve time in prison, prompting anger from Gittings’ family.

The crash happened in Farmington, Connecticut, as Morton was distracted by a message displayed on the car’s screen and travelling at 41mph. Gittings, 31, died four weeks after suffering injuries that led to the amputation of his leg; two friends riding behind him were also seriously hurt. Her lawyer cited anorexia, bulimia and repeated suicide attempts, while the court heard that civil settlements had severely affected her mother’s finances.

  • Morton received a 10-year suspended sentence.
  • Gittings died four weeks after the crash.
