Socialists take Manhatan victory lap to gloat over blue tsunami and demand new Dem leadership
The Democratic Socialists of America held a rally in Manhattan, claiming their movement helped drive the Democrats’ Election Day gains and calling for a stronger role in the party. Participants said they would oppose centrist leaders and press Congress to support their causes.
Hundreds marched about a mile from Times Square to Seventh Avenue and 14th Street. They criticised presumptive incoming House and Senate majority leaders Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer as too centrist, and called for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to be kept out of New York City. The rally was sponsored by the NYC DSA, Make the Road New York and several unions.
