U2 reunite at Dublin school where band formed 50 years ago
U2 returned to Mount Temple School in Dublin, where the band formed after Larry Mullen placed a notice seeking musicians 50 years ago. Bono, The Edge, Mullen and Adam Clayton performed an impromptu concert for around 900 pupils, celebrating the school’s role in their beginnings and encouraging students to pursue music and their ambitions.
The gig was U2’s first full performance in Ireland since 2018 and featured songs including “I Will Follow” and “Out of Control”, alongside improvised sections of other well-known tracks. They were joined by 32 young string musicians from Music Generation, an initiative created by U2 and supported by the Irish Government, while Bono recalled the friendships, teachers and formative experiences that helped keep the group together.
