Coyote vs Acme, a live-action and animation hybrid featuring Wile E Coyote and other Looney Tunes characters, is finally due for release after Warner Bros shelved it in 2023 as part of a tax write-off. Its cancellation shocked the cast and crew because early audience testing had reportedly been positive, while the film’s unusual courtroom-drama premise and well-known characters gave it wider cultural appeal. Support from fans and industry figures helped sustain efforts to bring the film back.

Director Dave Green began the project in 2020, drawing on Ian Frazier’s 1990 New Yorker satire in which Wile E Coyote sues Acme over defective products. Will Forte, who plays the human lead Kevin Avery, said the cancellation initially left him intensely angry, while Green questioned his work before the public response encouraged him. The film was shelved alongside Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt, but is now positioned as a potential summer success three years later.
