Writing on X, he described his father's enthusiasm for working with L7 on the 1996 tribute album Twisted Willie, calling the record "sick" and noting he still owns a poster the band signed for him as a child. The tribute highlights the cross-generational links between country and rock musicians and adds a personal note to the wider outpouring of grief over Finch's death.

Finch died on 18 July, aged 59, just days after publicly revealing she had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. A GoFundMe page set up on her behalf detailed a difficult battle involving radiation treatment, multiple surgeries and significant physical setbacks. L7 and the band's representatives also released statements mourning her as a "true original" whose creativity helped shape the group, while Waylon Jennings' 1996 recording of "Three Days" with L7, part of an album also featuring Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson, was cited as a lasting example of their collaboration.
