Fortnite is bringing Sonic the Hedgehog into the battle royale game as part of its upcoming gaming-themed season, Chapter 7 Season 4, titled "Override." A teaser clip shared by the official Sonic social media account shows a Green Hill Zone-themed area, with Fortnite's Peely the banana dashing through it at speed, suggesting a new Sonic-inspired movement item will let players zip around the map. The crossover is one of several classic video game collaborations expected this season, alongside franchises such as Tetris, Kingdom Hearts and Persona.

The teaser also hints at a story link, opening with the logo of the Imagined Order, Fortnite's villainous faction led by Geno, implying the group is responsible for pulling video game characters into Fortnite's world. The current Runners season, built around collecting Pokémon-style creatures called Sprites, is wrapping up, though Epic Games has confirmed the Sprite-collecting mechanic will continue in future seasons via a new "Sprite Garden." Season 4 (Override) is expected to launch on 19 August, with further crossover announcements likely in the coming days, including possible Kingdom Hearts news from this weekend's D23 Expo.
