Sony has launched Live TV on PS5, a free application providing live and on-demand television directly on the PlayStation 5 console in the US. Based on early hands-on impressions, the app feels more deeply integrated into the console's system software than a typical downloadable app, appearing via the PS5's quick menu rather than as a listed application, and can even be controlled without opening it in the traditional sense.

According to the writer's roughly 45-minute trial, the app briefly caused their television to reboot, which they attributed to software loading, and worked well with the DualSense controller for navigation, including using L1 and R1 to jump between sections. The service currently offers a mix of live channels and on-demand content, including anime titles such as the first 16 episodes of Naruto and the first season of Sailor Moon, as well as older films from the 2010s, though the writer noted scepticism about the amount of advertising likely found in the linear channels.
