Sony could release a cheaper version of its WH-1000XM4 headphones, according to leaks
Sony is reportedly preparing a lower-cost refresh of its 2020 WH-1000XM4 wireless noise-cancelling headphones, potentially launching in early September. The move could give buyers access to much of Sony’s established premium headphone technology at a lower price, while appealing to fans of the older model’s folding design.
Leaks suggest the WH-1000XM4C will cost €249.99 or £219.99 and be sold in black, silver and lavender. It is expected to retain ANC using Sony’s QN1 chip, spatial and hi-res audio, and touch controls, but offer shorter battery life: up to 34 hours normally or 27 hours with noise cancelling, compared with 38 and 30 hours respectively for the original.
- Sony may revive the WH-1000XM4 as a cheaper model.
- Expected UK price is £219.99.
- Reduced battery life is the reported main compromise.

Sony’s WH-1000XM4 are over-ear wireless headphones released in 2020, known for reducing background noise and for their folding design. Noise cancelling uses microphones and electronics to lessen sounds around the listener, which can make music and calls easier to hear in noisy places.
Sony is a major electronics company, and its XM series sits in the premium part of the headphone market. The reported WH-1000XM4C would be a lower-priced version of an established model, with some features retained and shorter battery life; that matters to buyers weighing cost against how long they need headphones to last between charges.
