Sony Pictures has hired television writer Jill Blankenship to write "Castle," a medieval action film based on an original idea from Chris Bremner's Unknown Quantity production company. The project marks Blankenship's first foray into feature film writing after building her career in television, and positions her among a small number of female writers tapped for major studio action projects. Plot details have not been disclosed.

Bremner, who previously wrote Sony's "Bad Boys for Life" and "Bad Boys: Ride or Die," will produce "Castle" alongside his Unknown Quantity partner Jeff Arkuss, who reportedly played a key role in securing the deal. Blankenship's television credits include co-creating and showrunning "Naomi" for The CW with Ava DuVernay, plus work on "The Last Ship," "Sweet Tooth" and "Daredevil: Born Again." She also has the Black List thriller "Trapped" in development, and Bremner separately has several other projects set up at Sony, including "Permission" and "You Up."
