Sony Pictures TV Signs Content Creator Thea Von Engelbrechten to First-Look Deal, Launches Animated Microdrama ‘Hazelwood’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Sony Pictures Television has signed Irish creator Thea Von Engelbrechten to a multiyear first-look deal, giving the studio an opportunity to develop and produce original series from her. The first project is “Hazelwood”, an animated microdrama that brings her darkly comic animal characters into a new series.

Episodes, each only a few minutes long, begin on YouTube on 13 November, with new instalments every Friday; they will also appear on TikTok and Instagram on Sundays. Von Engelbrechten built an audience with “Moletown Drama”, which has 2.5 million TikTok followers and one million on Instagram, after her earlier figurine videos led to a copyright lawsuit that was settled out of court. “Hazelwood” follows woodland residents amid scandals, troubled relationships and the absurdities of suburban life.
