Sony Pictures has secured North American and international distribution rights to *The Surgeon*, an action thriller starring Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh, following a competitive bidding process at the Toronto International Film Festival. The acquisition signals renewed interest in festival acquisitions and demonstrates confidence in the project's commercial potential, particularly given Yeoh's star power and the film's positive reception.

*The Surgeon* is directed by Dr. Roshan Sethi, a practising radiation oncologist who drew on his medical background to create an action-packed thriller centring on an abducted surgeon forced to operate on a mysterious patient before using her expertise to escape her captors. The film, also starring Martin Freeman and featuring a Thin Lizzy-infused soundtrack, has achieved a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from eleven reviews. Sony's acquisition includes rights across North America, Latin America, Italy, China and Hong Kong, with the film produced by John Wick franchise producers Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Diarmaid McGrath.
