Sony Spooked by Rumoured $400 Million Budget for Hideo Kojima’s Physint

Push Square · 2 hours ago

Sony reportedly cancelled Hideo Kojima’s stealth-action game Physint after negotiations became strained over its rising budget, development plans, timeline and lack of firm exclusivity. The project allegedly required a very large investment while Kojima Productions would retain the intellectual property and intended to release the game on multiple platforms, making Sony unwilling to accept the financial risk.

Reports have suggested a budget of around $400 million, although Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has not confirmed that figure and says Xbox agreed to a “significantly” lower amount. For context, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 reportedly cost about $300 million, including a substantial Disney licensing fee; Physint is still in early development, with Bill Skarsgård attached and its engine undecided after Guerrilla’s Decima was apparently ruled out.

  • Sony reportedly rejected Physint’s huge cost and limited exclusivity.
  • Xbox acquired the project for a reportedly smaller budget.
  • The game remains early in development with no confirmed final cost.
