Sony’s Spider-Man games see Steam surge after Brand New Day debut

Sony's Marvel's Spider-Man games continue to benefit from the record-breaking box office success of new Tom Holland film "Brand New Day", with Steam data confirming a fresh player surge over the weekend. Concurrent player counts have climbed across Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, Miles Morales and Marvel's Spider-Man 2, underlining the cross-promotional link Sony has been building between its film and games divisions, and suggesting the movie's billion-dollar opening weekend could translate into a meaningful boost for PlayStation more broadly.
Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered hit its highest peak concurrent players on Steam since its 2022 PC launch, reaching around 16,000 on Sunday, while Marvel's Spider-Man 2 peaked at roughly 12,000. On the PlayStation Store, Spider-Man 2 has climbed to about 30th on the best-sellers list, and PSNProfiles data suggests it ranks around 15th for most-played games; console figures remain unavailable, with clearer sales data expected later in the month via Circana and Sony's own charts. Push Square also notes the upcoming release of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls this week could see a similar lift from the film's popularity.

Sony's Marvel's Spider-Man video games, made by Insomniac Games for PlayStation, have seen a jump in players since the release of "Brand New Day", the latest Tom Holland Spider-Man film, which has had a huge opening at the box office. Sony owns both the film studio and the games, and has been encouraging fans of one to try the other.
The games in question include Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, Miles Morales and Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which let players control the web-slinging hero in an open-world version of New York. Player numbers are being tracked through Steam, the PC platform where these games are sold, as well as PlayStation's own store and player-ranking sites, though full console sales figures are not yet public.
This matters because it offers an early sign of how a hit film can drive interest in related games, something Sony has been trying to engineer more deliberately across its entertainment businesses. It is also being watched as a possible test case for other upcoming games, including a new Marvel fighting title due out around the same time.
