Sophie Duker's fourth solo hour, Hot Beef Injection, showing at Pleasance Courtyard as part of the Edinburgh festival, sees the comedian mine a lifetime of unsettling and baffling encounters with men for sharp, purposeful comedy. The Guardian's review praises Duker's sparkling form as she moves from lightly absurd anecdotes to darker material, offset throughout by her trademark breezy wit and audience rapport.

The show takes its title from a crude Breakfast Club euphemism and ranges from swaggering "alpha male" types and an overly persistent repairman to more sinister accounts, including getting into a stranger's car and being locked in a room with a powerful man at a comedy club. It builds towards the viral "man or bear" debate, and though the reviewer felt the closing payoff was a touch too neat, they rate the hour as intelligent and well-crafted, with every routine serving a purpose. The show runs at Pleasance Courtyard, Edinburgh, until 30 August.
