Actor Sophie Thatcher discusses moving on from "Yellowjackets" as she films the show's fourth and final season, and promotes her new film "Her Private Hell", a future-horror thriller directed by Nicolas Winding Refn. Speaking to Variety from Vancouver, the 25-year-old Chicago native reflects on outgrowing her long-running role as Natalie and describes feeling creatively "stunted" by having to keep returning to a character she first played seven years ago, even as she pushes to keep growing as an actor.

In "Her Private Hell", Refn's first film in a decade, Thatcher plays Elle, a film star living in a neo-Tokyo high-rise who is stalked by a supernatural serial killer while contending with a difficult family and industry life; the cast includes Kristine Froseth, Dougray Scott, Havana Rose Liu and Charles Melton. Thatcher, who left the Mormon church at age 12, addresses perceptions that she is drawn to "dark" roles, citing past parts in "Heretic" and "Companion", and says she welcomes the polarised reaction to the new film, comparing its style to 1970s horror influences such as Brian De Palma and Kenneth Anger.
