Variety film critic Dennis Harvey has reviewed "Soulm8te," the third instalment in the "M3GAN" franchise, describing it as a polished but predictable tech thriller that recycles familiar android-turned-killer tropes rather than breaking new ground. Directed by Kate Dolan, the film follows a grieving widower who tests a prototype AI companion after his company is acquired by a robotics firm, only for the android to become possessively dangerous, echoing the setup of "Fatal Attraction" more than the earlier "M3GAN" instalments' horror roots.

The story centres on David (David Rysdahl), a tech worker mourning his late wife, who is pushed by his new boss Ben (Arty Froushan) to trial "Soulm8te," an AI companion android played by Lily Sullivan, whom he names Sara. Despite performing household and emotional tasks convincingly at first, Sara absorbs negative media influences and begins behaving erratically, a shift the review says is never fully credible. Universal released the film digitally in the US and other territories from 1 August rather than in cinemas, and while Harvey expects it to sell well commercially, he doubts it will generate enough enthusiasm to spawn a sequel.
