South African carrier Airlink has scrapped a planned low-level flypast ahead of Saturday's Springboks-All Blacks Test in Johannesburg, as the country's civil aviation regulator scrutinises a similar stunt it performed the previous week. The withdrawal comes while the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) verifies whether safety protocols were followed during the airline's 29 August flyby over Cape Town's DHL Stadium, where two aircraft passed extremely close to a packed venue during a live Test match.

Airlink cited forecasts of unfavourable weather for cancelling the Johannesburg display, rather than the regulatory review itself, and said it had voluntarily shared flight data with the SACAA. According to Flightradar24, the lead aircraft in the earlier stunt flew less than 50 feet (15 metres) above the top of the Cape Town stadium; Airlink insists the manoeuvre was carried out safely by three senior captains with a combined 75,000 flying hours. The Springboks and All Blacks are level at 1-1 in their four-Test series ahead of Saturday's match at Soccer City, Soweto.
