Southgate does not see return to Premier League management

BBC Sport ·

Former England manager Gareth Southgate says he cannot see himself returning to Premier League club management. Since leaving the national team after Euro 2024, he has enjoyed a change of pace and new experiences, and says his desire to be involved in football has shifted.

Southgate, 56, led England to the finals of Euro 2020 and Euro 2024, losing both, and has not managed a club since Middlesbrough in 2009. He says that towards the end of his England tenure, even winning brought only brief enjoyment; since then he has worked in the media and lectured at Harvard Business School. He also said the Manchester City financial case and its possible legal consequences are complicated and could have no winners for football.
