Spain has deployed military personnel to support the Civil Guard in Ceuta after thousands of migrants crossed from Morocco into the Spanish North African enclave. At least nine people died during the crossings, and local officials said the city could no longer cope with the scale of the influx.

The move represents a major security response by Spain to restore order at one of its most sensitive border points. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska were involved in the government’s response, while footage showed migrants arriving by sea and swimming towards Ceuta.
