Jack Shepherd, the "speedboat killer" jailed for the manslaughter of Charlotte Brown, has been sentenced to a further 20 months after admitting attacking his girlfriend with burning-hot barbecue tongs and punching her while on licence. The 39-year-old, sentenced via video link from HMP Swaleside, was told by Judge Martin Edmunds KC that he posed a significant danger to women despite claiming remorse and promising to address his drinking, with the judge saying he placed no faith in such claims.

Shepherd met the woman, a fellow tenant in her 50s, after his release on licence in January 2024, and the relationship turned abusive within a year, with him hurling insults about her age and weight. At Isleworth Crown Court it emerged that in February last year he pinned her down and punched her repeatedly, and in June he stabbed her in the chest with sharp barbecue tongs during an argument over a burnt pizza, leaving a permanent scar. He pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and damaging property, was recalled to prison in September last year, and the judge applied a "dangerousness test" allowing his licence period to be extended beyond his 2029 release date.
