Sphere Entertainment Revenue Rises 11% in Q2 on ‘Wizard of Oz’ Success
Sphere Entertainment’s second-quarter revenue rose 11% year-on-year to $313.6 million, driven largely by the success and increased number of screenings of The Wizard of Oz at Sphere in Las Vegas. The result underlines the venue’s potential to generate significant income from immersive film experiences as well as concerts and branded events, although higher costs meant the company still reported a wider operating loss.
The Sphere segment generated $226.4 million in revenue, up 29%, with 220 Oz performances helping lift Sphere Experience revenue by $53.8 million. The film had sold more than three million tickets and taken over $400 million in ticket sales from its launch last August to mid-June, while adjusted operating income fell 17% to $50.9 million and the overall operating loss widened to $61.3 million. Selling, general and administrative costs in the Sphere segment rose 30% to $125.6 million; the company is also developing The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Sphere for 2027.
