Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the highest-grossing Hollywood film ever released in India, taking $10.6M over the weekend to reach a cumulative $52.8M after just 11 days in cinemas. The Tom Holland and Zendaya film overtook the record previously held by Avatar: The Way Of Water, and its success comes as Indian cinemas show signs of recovery, with foreign films typically taking only a small slice of a market dominated by local productions.

The film opened in India on 30 July, a day ahead of its global release, and has faced little competition so far, though Batwara 1947 and Awarapan 2 are due to open in the coming weekend. It caps a strong summer for Hollywood titles in India, following Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey and Obsession, both of which passed the $10M mark locally. Industry data from Ormax Media shows international films held an 8% market share in the first half of 2026, while overall box office revenue for January to June reached $661.66M, the strongest first half since the pandemic and around 10% up on the same period in 2025.
