Destin Daniel Cretton, director of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," has discussed the film's ending and its future implications in an interview with Deadline, as the Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures release continues to break box office records. Cretton deliberately avoided giving his own interpretation of the divisive ending, saying he wants fan debate to keep shaping the writers' room as they decide what comes next for the franchise.

The film opened to $360 million domestically, the biggest North American debut ever, surpassing "Avengers: Endgame," and $932 million worldwide, putting it on course to pass $1 billion. Cretton, who took over from Jon Watts's "Spider-Man: Home" trilogy, built the story around Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) grief and isolation following "No Way Home," alongside a telepathic character played by Sadie Sink who is also processing loss, themes that shaped Holland's performance and the film's most personal scenes.
