Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains the widest-released film in US cinemas in its fifth weekend, despite the arrival of two major new releases. Its continued theatre presence underlines the exceptional commercial strength of the Sony-Marvel blockbuster and provides further support for cinema operators after its record-breaking run.

The film will play in 3,678 theatres, down from 4,006 the previous weekend, compared with 3,575 for Coyote vs. Acme and 3,330 for Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars. Having grossed $2.24 billion worldwide since its 31 July release, it is projected to add $22 million to $27 million domestically this weekend, potentially overtaking Titanic in the all-time box-office rankings; Coyote vs. Acme is forecast to open at $14 million to $22 million, while The Dog Stars is expected to take $9 million to $14 million.
