The Nicolas Cage series "Spider-Noir" won five Creative Arts Emmy Awards just days after Prime Video/MGM+ cancelled the show, in an ironic twist for a series that had received the streamer's most nominations of the year. The result underscores the disconnect that can arise between critical and industry recognition and commercial or strategic decisions about a show's future, with cast and crew celebrating the wins even as the series' cancellation stands.

Spider-Noir, which debuted in May and marked Cage's first regular TV role, had earned 11 Emmy nominations before scooping awards for stunt coordination, sound editing, title design, visual effects and cinematography at Sunday's ceremony. The show, following private investigator Ben Reilly in 1930s New York, was intended as the first instalment in a wider Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios plan to expand Marvel-related stories, and featured a cast including Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li and Brendan Gleeson. The Creative Arts Emmys will be broadcast on 12 September, ahead of the main Primetime Emmy Awards airing live on NBC on 14 September, hosted by Mariska Hargitay.
