Spotify says it removed more than 50 million tracks it classified as AI-generated slop or spam from user recommendations over the past year. It has also adjusted its recommendations to give more prominence to music made by human artists, saying listener concerns about unwanted AI content have fallen.
Spotify assesses tracks using listener engagement and feedback, upload patterns, metadata and third-party AI detection tools. It has introduced an “AI Persona” badge for artists using a non-human AI identity and says it will not recommend music from those personas, but has not required labels on all AI tracks. Other services have adopted different policies, while Spotify is also working with Universal Music Group and Believe on a tool for making AI music remixes.
