Spurs make Osimhen approach – Monday’s gossip

BBC Sport ·

Tottenham have opened talks to sign Napoli-linked striker Victor Osimhen from Galatasaray, though the two clubs remain some way apart on valuation, in one of several stories doing the rounds in Monday's transfer gossip column. Elsewhere, Arsenal are close to completing a major midfield signing from Newcastle, while Manchester City's Jack Grealish is attracting interest from Spain amid an otherwise busy day of Premier League and EFL movement.

Spurs have made an initial approach worth up to £55m for Osimhen, 27, well short of Galatasaray's £65m asking price, and have also held positive but so far fruitless talks over Liverpool's Cody Gakpo, 26. Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes, 28, is set for an Arsenal medical in a deal worth nearly £80m, while Grealish, 30, is being considered by Atletico Madrid alongside interest from Everton and Aston Villa. Newcastle are also finalising a £25.7m deal for Braga goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek, Chelsea have improved their bid for Rayo Vallecano's Pep Chavarria, Fulham are completing moves for Real Madrid pair Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios, and Hull City are busy in the market, closing in on Mohamed-Ali Cho, Lucas Herrington and Jens Hjerto-Dahl.

  • Spurs bid up to £55m for Galatasaray's Victor Osimhen, below the £65m asking price.
  • Bruno Guimaraes set for Arsenal medical in near-£80m move from Newcastle.
  • Atletico Madrid weighing a move for Manchester City's Jack Grealish.

The transfer window is the period when football clubs can sign players from other teams. Clubs negotiate both a fee with the player’s current club and personal terms with the player; an approach or opening bid does not mean a transfer has been agreed.

Tottenham Hotspur, often called Spurs, are a Premier League club looking to strengthen their attack. Victor Osimhen is a Nigerian striker currently at Galatasaray in Turkey, while Cody Gakpo plays for Liverpool; any move would depend on the clubs agreeing a fee and the player agreeing to join.

The other names link clubs across the Premier League and lower divisions, as well as teams in Spain and Portugal. Such deals can affect squad depth and spending, while a player’s departure may leave their current club needing a replacement.
