Spyro Officially Begins a New Era for First New Game in 2 Decades

Collider · 53 minutes ago

Spyro: A Realm Beyond has had a fresh reveal to mark the franchise's 28th anniversary, giving fans their first proper look at Arcadian Vale, a new area designed to evoke the spirit of Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage. This matters because A Realm Beyond is the first entirely new Spyro game since 2008's The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, ending nearly two decades in which fans had only remasters and cameos to enjoy, and the new footage suggests the studio is building on nostalgia rather than abandoning it.

The concept art for Arcadian Vale shows waterfalls, ancient ruins, towering cliffs and small creatures, echoing the self-contained, character-driven worlds of the original trilogy but on a much larger scale. Its vertical design is intended to showcase the game's biggest change: Spyro can now fly freely, diving for speed, flapping to maintain momentum, and using fire breath to create updrafts. The story follows Spyro stranded in a mysterious realm under attack from an invading force called the Scavs. Spyro: A Realm Beyond is due for release in spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
