Square Enix’s Financial Year Is Off To A Strong Start, With Profits On The Up And Up
Square Enix has reported a strong start to its financial year, with operating profit for the first quarter (ending June 2026) up 88.6% year-on-year to ¥17,008 million. The rise was driven across the whole business, but the Digital Entertainment (games) division did most of the heavy lifting, posting a 51.8% increase in net sales and a 91.8% jump in operating profit, underlining a solid recovery in the company's core games business.
Square Enix credited the "solid performance" of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and The Adventures of Elliot for driving game sales, with Final Fantasy XIV also contributing, albeit with a more modest profit increase. The company still has a substantial Switch 2 pipeline ahead, including Final Fantasy Resonance, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, Revelation, and re-releases of Dragon Quest XI, Octopath Traveler and Kingdom Hearts titles, suggesting further growth potential in the coming quarters.
