Stand Atlantic’s Bonnie Fraser Wants to Bring Imperfection Back to Rock
Stand Atlantic frontwoman Bonnie Fraser says she wanted the band’s fifth album, GODBREATH, to bring a more human, imperfect sound to modern rock. The Sydney group recorded all 11 tracks live together in one room, aiming to capture the energy and connection of older records; the album has become their first to top Australia’s ARIA Albums Chart.
Released on 23 October, GODBREATH also reached No. 1 on the Australian Albums Chart and No. 3 on the Vinyl Albums Chart. Stand Atlantic’s previous albums rose from No. 23 for Pink Elephant in 2020 to No. 10 for F.E.A.R. in 2022 and No. 3 for WAS HERE in 2024. Fraser says the title reflects both self-belief and arrogance, and argues that emerging musicians still need to work hard rather than rely on praise from industry figures.
In short
- Stand Atlantic recorded GODBREATH’s 11 songs live together.
- The album is the band’s first ARIA chart-topper.
- Bonnie Fraser wants rock recordings to sound more human.
Explained simply
Stand Atlantic are a rock band from Sydney, led by singer Bonnie Fraser. GODBREATH is their fifth album, following records that have climbed steadily higher on Australian album charts.
The album was recorded with the band playing together in one room, a method intended to capture the feel of musicians performing as a group. Fraser has described its title as touching on both belief in yourself and arrogance, and says new musicians still need to put in hard work.
