Cloud Imperium Games has delayed Star Citizen’s single-player campaign, Squadron 42, until the second quarter of 2027. Director Chris Roberts said the decision was intended to avoid competing for public attention with Grand Theft Auto 6, whose release is expected to dominate gaming coverage and marketing.
Squadron 42 had been targeting a 2026 launch, despite having been in development since 2014 and facing repeated delays. Roberts described it as a spiritual successor to Wing Commander and said the project represents 12 years of work, while GTA 6 is scheduled for November 2026; the new window gives the studio several months after that launch.
- Squadron 42 is now planned for Q2 2027.
- Roberts cited GTA 6’s expected media dominance.
- The game has been in development since 2014.
