Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has completed its penultimate season with an epic time-travelling finale, setting up the show's final chapter. The showrunners have announced significant changes for Season 5, abandoning the genre-hopping format that has defined the series in favour of a more focused approach to character closure. This shift represents a deliberate creative decision to deliver a proper send-off to the USS Enterprise crew in what will be the show's concluding season.

Season 5 will consist of six episodes airing in 2027, following the second season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Whilst remaining episodic in structure, the final season will forego genre shifts and concentrate on farewell storylines for the main characters. The production has cast Thomas Jane as Bones and Kai Murakami as Sulu, and the showrunners have promised satisfying conclusions for characters who don't appear in The Original Series, with particular focus on exploring the relationship between Kirk and La'an.
