Actor Ethan Peck has revealed details of a scrapped episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds that would have delved into a dark chapter of Spock's past. Speaking on a panel at Tampa Bay Comic Con alongside co-star Christina Chong, Peck described his pitch for a story centred on a "blood debt" — a morally grey favour owed to a mysterious figure from Spock's earlier life. The idea never made it to screen, but it highlights the continued fascination with Spock's backstory, a thread the franchise has explored sporadically since The Original Series.

Peck explained the concept would have seen someone from Spock's past return expecting repayment for a past favour, involving something "unethical" or in an "ineffable grey" area. Chong, meanwhile, noted that her own wish for a musical episode came true with season two's "Subspace Rhapsody," though her request for dancing Gorn in top hats went unfulfilled. Spock's history has been gradually filled in across the franchise, from the 1974 animated episode "Yesteryear" to Star Trek V's revelation of half-brother Sybok and Star Trek: Discovery's introduction of adoptive sister Michael Burnham. Season four of Strange New Worlds is currently streaming on Paramount+.
